I wash and polish my car once a week, and some people have told me that polishin your car often isnt good for it? Doesnt it help restore the paintwork and protect it? so isnt that a good thing?
I used to polish my corsa 3-4 times a week in the summer It was sunny and i had nothing else to do
options welcome...

polishing = good
overuse of t-cut etc = bad

Yeah, you're ok to polish/wax, but using cutting compounds too much will lead to a nasty case of no paint in the end

I've also been told polishing it too often isn't good for the paint.
If you use a good polish it doesn't need polishing more than once a month anyway as it still comes up nice and shiney after a wash and chamois for the next 3-4 times after its been polished

all depends on the polish, a high polymer polish will be fine, naything claiming to restore, or get swirls out etc will be non good for regular use

Chist Andy you must have a really shiny car
I used to polish the Corsa loads as it was black. But silver just needs a good shammy and job done

Don't polish my current car - Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi Ghia as much as I used to polish my BMW.
Don't think its neccessary on such a normal boring Mondeo.

I polish mine about once every 2 months in winter as I dont get enough good weather to be able to do it at the times when I'm off work.
In the summer it gets polished about once every 3 weeks.

Yeah when you polish a car it takes out small layer off it. Polish is just not as abrasive as a cutting compound. If you then wax it after your ok cos that puts your protective layer back onto the car!
I would say polishing your car 3 times a year should be sufficient, then just wash and wax every week. If you do that and keep away from car washes you wont need to polish it so often!
Also dont use sponges and chamy's as they add to the swirl marks, use a wash mitt, and a drying towel!!

some polish's are actually wax's though, and vice versa, a lot gets mis interpretted in the gay naming conventions

Polish=bad
wax=good
Polish removes a layer to bring back colour underneath, Wax leaves a protective film on top and hence keeps it shiny. So get a wax and go nuts!!!
