as per my prevuious post the other day im still unsure of what to do
i think i could get a valver supplied and fitted for maybe just under a grand from a local lad who is spot on !! (he's got a 325bhp nova and a 410bhp cossie)
but my mate has got a 1.6 16valve standard engine thats sat doing nothing and wants rid of it ? (for a bit of cash of course)
ive currently got a 1.4 8 valve
1. how easy would it be to fit the 1.6?
2. cheap for parts and to maintain ?
3. easy to fit into mine ?
4. standard BHP ?
5. cheap to get quick ?
thanks
sorry for the hassle

oh no, not again
Depends on the age and condition of the engines.
if the 1.6 was a newish one, get that if its in good condition. 2 litre will most probably be hammered. both should need at leats a clutch, cambelt, and a quick look inside to check condition of the crank and shells.
why not just re-build the one you choose to put in? wont cost much if you diy.

everybody is entitled for there own opinions not sure on engine etc just wants some ideas really
the engine is not in a car at the min so i would clean it up and do bits of re conning like cambelt etc get me mates to check it over anything that will need replacing i will get done
but just want to know a bit more about them and what other people think to them how easy they are to work on and mod etc and weather they are cheap to do
im not after silly bhp as ive only ever had :
1 litre nova saloon
1 litre nova hatchback
1.4 8 valve corsa
and ive now got a 1.7 turbo diesel van
thanks

if the 2 litre is good, fit that.
if you want to fit the 1.6 then spend cash modding it, dont bother unless you have 2k for tb's etc.
Im a big fan of the 1.6 but in standard form its a bit lame. with new inlet etc its good, loved my mantzel set-up but you need nearly as much as the tb's would cost to get it perfect! Remember tho, you will need new brakes and suspension etc... which ever one you do, especially with the 2 litre.

PMSL I still cant believe that people measure how many miles they get to a certain amount of money instead of saying how many miles they get to so many litres Petrol prices change

do you want to drive around every were boucing your car off the Rev limiter? or would you prefer easyer power?
when you on the motorway at 70MPH do you like the engine to sound like
NERRRRRRRRRRR... NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! or just a nice quitish drive?

2. are the 1.6 16 valves easy to work on
3. are they cheap on parts
4. what bhp are they standard
5. are they easy to tune and cheap to do so
6. insurance group
7. what will i have to do with regards to MOT DVLA engineers report ?

1. Easy maybe one differnt engine mount.
2. extremely easy espicially with an aftermarket inlet manifold
3. Very cheap on parts
4. 106BHP standard
5. yes an inlet manifold, de-cat, exhaust system will see you at 120 bhp +
6. x16xe group 10 c16xe group 11
7. Engineers report is not essential that depends on your insurance company you need to fill out a part on your V5 document and post it off.

Only some insurance companys look for an engineers report...
i would only consider the 1.6 if you can forsee yourself putting trottle boddies on it(£1500-£2000)
