They dont really have a value as such but i wouldnt pay over 3.5k for one. (i made that mistake!)

The later spec one (1995 onwards) or facelift models with v-grille are galvanised and wont rot like the old ones.

4x4 isnt as bad as everyone makes out, you just need to understand it and take a few simple precautions and checks.

It is WELL worth it when u can hit 40mph entering a roundabout foot down and dont lift it untill u exit it at 60+ without it even complaining or asking u stop

Its so much fun its untrue, and thats on std power wheels and (knackered) suspension!

My LET corsa was fun, but this car really shows you why it was put in a car with 4x4

On the plus side they are ecomomical and comfy and spacious.

I love mine to bits, but the one thing you have to be prepared for is that it WILL need attention. they arer all 10yrs+ old now, so bits get old and die. That doent make them unreliable it just means u need to budget for minor repairs

for 3 / 4 grand you could have a decent subaru imprezza wrx import...

and with that you get -

a more powerful car
a better chassis
working 4x4 - which stays working!

So why buy the vauxhall ?

and dont say petrol consumption as they are both thirsty and not exactly the kind of car you buy to save on fuel!!!

Ditch the calibra will do 30mpg+ around town.

Thats quite a lot bnetter than a scooby

Itl be FAR cheaper to fix, most things you can do yourself.

Theres nout wrong with the calibra chassis with a decent suspension setup.

Small amount of cash and it will equall the scoob power, plus u get things like leather etc etc

And the 4x4 comment is another internet misgiving. The scooby system wont require as much attention, but if u check your tyre pressures regualrly then your TXB will last a long time so ong as you look after the car service it regularly etc etc

Mines 11 years old and works fine

to be fair... its no internet myth that the Vaux transfer box is made of chocolate, my mate has worked at vauxhall for 8 years and has had to deal with plenty of fubared calibras and cav's 4x4 systems...

I would be scared to launch a cally if I owned one for fear of breaking something... and thats not what its about at all IMO!!

horses for corses when you start modding them too fella, spend some cash on the subarus suspension and engine and watch it dispatch a cally with the same mods

out of the box a WRX is a much better chassis and more powerful engine...

30mpg
thats ALOT better than I thought to be honest...!

I see 22mpg on a combined run in my Celica

it does colin

Mine was doing 22mpg, then i changed the CTs and woooooooooooo back to 36mpg @ 60 in 6th does on average 29-31mpg round town That cost me £10 to fix and took 10mins of my time

The TXB is commonly abused and not maintained properly hence why alot give up, basically if the rolling radius of the tyres is massively different itsl overheat, do this for too long and boom.

Not hard to check your tyre pressures weekly, u should do that anyway!!

PLUS even if ytour worried about it, whip out fuse 19 and youve got a FWD calibra

And ditch im not doubting a subrau's ability, i would love a scoob im aiming for a P1 as nmy next car...

BUT a cally can be had for £2k, which is cheap!! Which is what i was getting at, not having whats a better car debate, and trying to dispell a few myths
