Just been over to brosters to feel le chat, again
got there and the car was making a really loud tapping noise , like there was no oil in it, left it 15 mins or so, went and checked the oil, seems fine, start car again, noise is still there, sounds like its coming from the back of the engine, like injector noise, but REALLY really loud
fuck knows what it is, only thing i can think is that when the fuel hoses on the fuel rail were replaced, there is an airlock or something
either that, or the engine's buggered....
any ideas/ help/ free engines to the usual address
on a more positive not, le chat is fine

its definitely coming from the back, exhaust seems fine to be honest
suppose it could be the manifold-cat joint, but it really does sound like its coming from the top-back of the engine

My Astra sounded like a diesel when I got to work thursday morning, topped it up with (a lot) of oil and went to fire it up on my break 2 hours later, it was fine then.
Poxy engine, think it's either valve stem oil seals or piston rings, drinks oil like there's no tomorrow, and performance is crap!
Got compression test booked first thing tuesday morning... Oh well there goes my bonus this month...

seems to idle ok though Paul, if the gasket was leaking, i'd have thought it would be all over the place
i'll check the oil again in the morning, need to do the bloody thermostat too god knows how you do it

not always rob, sometimes it can be a bit funny... after i rebuilt my 8v for the 3billionth time, i didnt tighten the manifold up enough on the end (forgot) idled and ran fine, just banged!
although i do remember the reason the build on my old 8v was because i blew the headgaskert between cylinders 3 & 4, the engine ran fine oddly enough, but was making a lovely tappy/bangy noise all the time

i'll check that tomorrow too then
if i cant find anything i'll just run it into the ground, then whip it out and replace it with something else

just noisy, seems to go well still
i did give it a bit of a beating on the back roads to his house, thought i might have broken something
oh, forgot to mention, the noise came and went away on the way home too, so i assume its injectors or something
