if i get just lowering springs i dont need get anythin else do i. am i right in thinkin they just basically go straight on

I wouldn't get just springs at all - I would invest in a shocks & springs set as you will knacker you old standard shocks and the standard shocks are not built to take the harshness.
Also the ride quality will be improved as you will need uprated shocks which are firmer in order for the car better on them twisties
