I will soon have my car back and because I rebuilt the engine it will obviously require running in. However I have heard different peoples views on how to do this.
I recently read an article on hard running in and how you can get much better horsepower and reliability by effectively giving the engine some beans within the first 20 miles!
Heres the article if you wanna read any of it: Hard Running In
What do you reckon? stick to the good old way of gentle running in or try this method?

Id slowly run it in and gradually increase the rev's as you rack up the mile's. Don't take it above 3k for the first 100m for example.

So many different views. Some people say you don't need to run an engine in. Others will drive 10,000 miles without going over 900rpm.
You want to use the full rev range of the engine so you get an equal ammount of polishing and scraping from the piston rings. Revs too low and you will polish the bores, revs too high and you will scrape the bores too much. However, I'm sure in modern engines you don't need to worry about this because of the modern methods of honing.

An engine is'nt truely run in till around 10,000m, but as this is a rebuild I'd run it in over a 1000m period.
My dad's mate has just bought a Focus St, he was told by the dealer that they no longer need running in as it's done at the factory! I'd still run it in though!!

iirc the trick to running in is varied rpm and load avoiding W.O.T, don't forget the oil change intervals too, you'll need fresh after 50 miles

i'm currently running in mine.
First 250-300 miles will be under 3000rpm,
change oil and filter at 100 miles
change oil and filter at 250/300 miles
after that revving up to 4k, not sure after that

He'll clog the engine with carbon and other gunk then. THe engine is fully run in at the factory. We get engines from Ford that are brand new, put on the bench and sat at 5000rpm for a month to see if they break. You strip one of them and it looks brand new inside.

Yea, I can understand newer engines with much better machined parts and smaller tolerances but what about with my 13 year old c20xe??

That's still classed as a modern engine. What are you doing to it?

Run it in for the first 500 miles, don't rag it otherwise it will spend another 6 months down Lee's

1000 miles run in at varying rpm, nothing silly though. Preferably on a dyno but otherwise "sensibly" on back roads and not 5min journeys to the shops - decent long runs.
Take it up to its limit once your happy with how its running, but I wouldnt advise doing this straight away.
