get a pcoket pc and add a gps reciever, better yet buy my xda2i and use that .
but on a serious note i think pocket pc's are better value for money seen as you not only get the gps but you get a mini computer and with mine a phone 2.

Im not too bothered about it being simple although that does matter to some extent. Im more bothered about it being reliable, what it can do and not sending me the wrong way.

How do you get the speed camera update? Does it cost?

I've got a Tomtom 300 and its brilliant. My sense of direction is pants, and its never let me down. Would'nt be without it now, i used to worry about setting off to places where i dont know. Now just put in the postcode and follow it, would recommend it to anyone.

I used tom tom for 2 years when my job involved me visiting different sites across the country eveyday. Full postcode look up with Tom Tom is ace although it is always best to check the road name as well cos mine let me down a few times.
Also I agree with the comment above about getting a pocket pc and not just stand alone sat nav, an xda is even better as you get phone, wifi, and sat nav all on one device,
Iv got a dell axim x50 at the moment running tom tom 5 whole set up cost me £260 and I couldnt be without it!!

I think I would rather have an all in one unit though which can be removed from the car quickly and easily overnight or to put in another car.

a pocket pc is nearly all in one, theres the phone and a small bluetooth reciever thats it, just take them out and pop them in another car.

Get yourself a Symbian enabled phone (eg. Nokia 6600 upwards) and download the Tom Tom 5 software. You'll need a GPS receiver (£40/50) to run via bluetooth too. I got the full software (UK postcodes and 29 different voices eg. John Cleese) but not running it as yet.
I use a NavMan but once I get the GPS I'll be running the Nokia/Tom Tom 5.
EDIT: Get a decent sized MMC card too, I got a 1GB for less than 20 quid from Ebuyer.

As for updates, u2u me anyone needing it...I'm registered on another forum, but no need for everybody to pay for the same stuff again
