ok, i have a really old comp layin about, its runnin win 98 not second edition, gonna use it for some stuff on the net but its really really slow, it comes with a boot disc to reinstall everythin back to factory settings, i want to install windows 2000 as this should help it run better, but can i install over the current version of win 98 or do i have to remove it first??? thing is the boot disc has all the drivers for key board etc and need it to install graphics card etc??? also its a tiny...

You should be able to run the Win2000 discs and will auto format.

Pop in the first of the four Windows 2000 boot-disks......after it's loaded everything it needs into memory, it'll give you the option to format & partition the drive(s) as required.

emmm its not a legit copy of win 2000 and comes on 1 disc

just change your boot sequence in bios putting cd drive as first.

No, they're the boot-disks for the operating-system.

As in you pop the disks in, and it loads what it needs to PREPARE to install Windows. With 95/98/ME, it just loads up a few things and then gives you command-prompt; with NT-based versions of Windows (NT/2k/XP), it loads all of the basic configuration-info into memory, then asks for the Windows CD.

The cd should boot without they annoying floppys.

It "should", but on the off-chance it doesn't, it's handy to have the floppies available! Not all Windows CDs are bootable...

i dont have a floppy drive

and already installed win98, 2000, xp, 2003, longhorn

If its not bootable its a dodgy bad copy that somebodys tampered with somewhere.
