ive heard they can do spot checks to test your emissions

is this true

Yes the police can stop you at any time & check your car complies with the law!!!

Emissions is one reason, red diesel is another, un-insured mods etc

Whether it will happen or not is another thing but I personally have been stopped for emissions (years ago....when I had my corsa) & my old man was checked for Diesel at SECC a few weeks ago.

On another note ive run 2 cars without Cats for about 3 years & got away with it!!

Note you will need a Cat to pass MOT

if your car is supposed to have a cat then its classed un-road worthy but if like mine, your car doesnt need a cat then its ok

Basically any car post 92 must have a cat -unless the engine fitted is pre 92 but I think you need to prove this!!

y doesnt u acr ahve to have a cat james?
my car has just passed its mot so i have a whole year without hassle

wat fines am i expecting if i do get pulled?

mine may be a 2000 w-reg shell but the engine was from a 1990 calibra. as its all declaired with the dvla as a 2.0 16v coras, they had the engine number with should correspond with the car that it came from. off 2 book my mot now

Im guessing it has a Calibra engine fitted from a car made before 1992

I think if you got caught you would get a producer to get it fixed & re-tested......if you dont you could expect to appear in court!!

to be fair, on a 1.2 8v, its not worth the effort, or the possible hassle

Even on the 1.6 16v it doesnt do much
