trouble is you may be able to wrangle like 5bhp out of your engine but to do that youll have to work out if the cost warrents the benefits?

U can do the usual air filter etc but gains will be neglegeble!

I have 1.2 16v and I have to say a good oil change and oil filter, air filter ect did help....considering the oil filter in mine was like mush when I pulled it out of the first owner.

Roybob:

If insurance is a problem etc then a tidy x14xe conversion should be a nice little transplant 90bhp and a reliable engine and plenty buts availible to tune I sold my old x14xe for £200 od !

yeh get a decat exhaust system (not one for looks) but one for performance, so straight through.

there are things you can do like dbilas inlet manifold, but you'll only be looking at like 105 bhp after remap if your lucky

save up to drop a bigger engine in it, but meanwhile get a decat exhaust system and filter etc.

They're fairly nippy compared to say 1.2 8v's or 1.1 8v 106s etc.

As said obviously you want more power now or she does, but you really are best off waiting and saving up for the sensors that will go wrong soon instead
