I know when your a new driver if you get 6 points you have to retake your test, how long does that period last? is it 6 points in the first year and youve lost it?

2 year probation period. We're all treated as criminals during the first 2 years

Not at all. It's simply to discourage inexperienced drivers from committing offences. I'm not convinced it works, but nae mind.

Mate got done the other day (3 points) for having 1.1mm on his front two tyres. 100% his own fault as it could ahve caused an accident etc, that's what points should be for...not doing 62mph in a 60.

Worst one i heard was when my sister got 3 points because she went across a red light (looked to make sure it was safe of course) because an ambulance with blue lights flashing was behind her as she couldnt get out of its way without doing so.
So i guess the right thing to do is make it wait and just hope the person in question doesnt die eh?

The highway code says not to go through red lights for emergency vehicles, so it was her fault, although I do sympathise.

I just had a look in my highway code book here but i dont see anything stating you shouldnt go through a red light for an emergency vehicle. It says you shouldnt put other road users in danger but you could debate as to what that means. If its a red light but you can see its clear both ways, is that really putting anyone in danger to let it past?
