not dipstick
it's leaking along the line between the engine and gearbox, coming from the engine side though...it's can be seen starting around here:

fresh clean engine oil...had an oil change last week
not rocker cover gasket, was changed some time back and from pic, it can be seen that it is well dry..but who knows...will need to have a check

its is the rocker cover gasket mines weaping from the same place at first it looked like it was comimg from behind the dis pack. Have a look where the gasket comes down over the hump on the front cam the pattern part gaskets have a mold/join line on that corner what makes it leak. also have a look at the breather pipes aswell as thay can weap and crack around where the clip is

problem with rocker cover gaskets is they tend to get overtightened
I went through 3 on my 1.4 and put a brand new one on the 1.6, and they ALL leaked
they are a total pain in the arse, and i dont know a good way of getting it sorted

what can I do for to try and fix it for now, until I get it sorted since i'll be having tappets changed, can do the gasket at the same time
some silicone?

hermatite red.
smear that onto the face of the head before pressing the gasket down onto it. also make sure the cover bolts are tightened up in the correct sequence

Just press the gasket onto the head touch of oil on the outline to make a seal then tighten up the rocker cover doing it up oposite ends inwards and not over tighten. Tighten till you feel the bolt grab then half a turn.
Dont bother with tapets on a small xe its a waste of money unless your keeping the engine for good.
My old 1.4 16v was a nigt mare the engine stared with an oil leak on the rocker and then worked its way to the oil pump....then it ended up in a bin.

Oh and no silicone unles your willing to let it dry for a while as it will contaminate the oil and also make it a pain in the arse to remove the gasket possibly leaving deposits in then oil ways when you try and remove it. Not good
