you cut the old ones off and these fit over the stub that remains ......take you 3 mins

sounds drastic but it is easy
if you peal the rubber gaiter back you will see there is a piece of the stalk that is straight and square. you cut the stalk of to leave this part as long as possible and the new stalk slides over it and is secured in place with a couple of grub screws
all after market stalks are like this for the Elise and TVR etc

its not hard to fit these, i mean you can get a std stalk 2nd hand for about £10 from scrappy so even if you bugger 1 set theres always others
