Ordered a fish tank today
I basically have little if any knowledge of fish at the moment but going to learn obviously!
Does anyone have an good sites with information about tropical fish on? Like how many you can have in a certain size tank and what types of fish get on and which ones dont etc. etc.
Still have to buy gravel and ornaments etc. for the tank yet. Should be here by the weekend.

Juwel are shit hot tanks. The built in filter and heater is the best bit.
I have a Rio 180 at home. Like this: -
Cleaned it yesterday after a 2 week holiday. The water was like piss!
You need to leave the tank running on it's own for a few days to settle. Then you can start putting fish in.

My mate is big on fish keeping and he said that a Juwel tank would be a good tank for me to start with.
I cant rely on him to tell me everything though so would like to find out things for myself aswell.

Ok mate... Good choice in tank.
I will do you some steps....
1) When you have the tank will it with the gravel... Roughly and inch thick.
2) Add it with tap water and enter the correct amount of "make tap water safe into the tank" - Make sure all pumps and heaters are on.
3) Each week do a cycle. On your 1st cycle do approx 25% there after 10% each week.
4) At this point no fish or anything..
5) Purchase some live plants and add those.
6) After about a month you should be nearly ready for some hardy fish, I personally would buy a test kit to make sure but most people don't.
7) Enter your fish very slowly..
8) Go for hardy fish
9) keep doing this and keep cycliing this is essential.
10) DO NOT over stock your tank, you could get around 10-15 in there OK.

make sure you cycle the tank before you start buying fish, hit up google to learn more about it. People try to rush this and then wonder why all the fish they have just bought died after a few days!!
BTW- Ive got a Juwel Rio400. They arent too bad but the filter was shit IMO. Takes up too much room and isnt anywhere near as good as a stand alone canister filter. They are great starter tanks though

I started with some tetras, and then after a couple of weeks added some Silver sharks.
They are really hardy, and I only had one die. He jumped into my filter box and i didn't notice he was there!

I already had the tank, heater, pump so saved alot there but had to get more and double up on some items. The tank had a section where the heater / filter was sectioned off so i managed to rip that off as that isnt required.
Apart from that I had to get....
x2 lights. white / blue and fitments £50
RO unit £60
Sand - £10
Live Rock £100
Hydrometer £10
Test Kit £20
Salt £40
Tubs for cycling water £20
Another 2 pumps £30
Another heater £15
Another thermometer / digital £20
Think thats about it and then the fish etc

U mean a crayfish?
and no, they get 2 big and will nip the other fish
So u could get a rainbow crab but ud need a tank big enough for them when they reach full size
Puffa's are cool, but not to be mixed with other fish

Yeah
Remember I already had the tank aswell..
It was alot to pay out but IMO the results of marine over tropical is worth it alone.

Erm, yeah crayfish. Found a site before that sells blue lobsters and it said it would need 20 Gallons of water. My tank is 21 Gallons.
