My friends thinking of getting a 10k loan for a Imprezza (sorry if spelt wrong).

What sort of spec is available at that price thats not too old?

Also a rough idea of running costs (servicing/petrol) for a year?

He is 21 with 1 years no claims, okay postcode, street parked. Rough insurance cost?

Just want to make he can actually afford to keep it running. before he jumps in and buys one.

He wants to be earning alot of cash!

I know 2 lads with scoobies, both quite thirsty, on'es got 4-5yrs no claims and he's paying 1000tpft on an M plate sti i think it is.

Getting a 10k loan at 21, insuring it will be 2 k at least and that will be TPFT, fuel will be alot!

If he earns alot of wonger each month, go for it, if not, dont bother imo.

eh...

Get a UK model 2000 or so for quite cheap.

Insurance isnt too bad on UK models.

Petrol isnt that bad either! You cant expect it to be great, but its def NOT horrendous

Probably get a 99ish sti for that sort of cash, know a few lads with scoobys...petrol costs are as you imagine...quite high, make sure you get a service every 10k, if he has 1 years no claims he will probably be looking at 2k+ on the insurance cost, maybe a little bit less on the wrx

Would you really bother with a UK WRX, they're like 215bhp standard.

If he's gonna get a newish one then it's gotta be an STI and make sure it's not a bugeye thing.

Running Costs....

We prob spend about 130 a month on fuel.....
Its gets serviced by me....
Just had to get new clutch, flywheel, suspension, bushes/arb etc - about 2.5k

4 tyres lasted a year and 10k miles or so.

its pretty run of the mill running costs for a 'performace' car.

A UK spec WRX '03 or so will be alot cheaper to run/maintain

I dont think he is aware of how much he will need to spend to keep it running. He has a old 1.8 cav at the moment. I've tried to explain you need to be prepared to pay out more on a performance car. My type R eats through front brakes every 6 months and front tyres, and he isnt likely to poodle about in a scooby so I dare say regular tyre and pad changes will be needed. I find petrol expensive so its going to hit him hard driving a scooby.

it will require a hell of a lot more cash to keep it on the road compared to a 1.8 Cav

from that 10k.... tell him to put aside 4k

tyres, clutch, insurance, tax, fuel

I rember whan i first got my first supra.... i spent about 700quid in the first month on fuel!! OUCH

thats what my old mans got and its serviced every 5k and if he's gonna buy an impreza tbh it would be better getting one from a subaru dealer, the 1 year warranty is priceless
