i know this mite av been covered but cannot find answer to couple of questions. if i get a set of lowering springs and keep the standard shocks will this be dangerous or anything like that? (i dont mind a bumpey ride) how much wud be about rite to pay to get them fitted as i know nothing about suspension? or wud some1 on ere be able to fit em for me? lol

my m8s car is lowered but looks as if the springs are crushed at the bottom. is this because they are clamped? is this possible?

any other way to lower the car ?

I'd only really go as low as 40mm on standard shocks personally, I was lowered 40mm on Spax springs and standard shockers for a while with no problems.

You can usually pick up a cheap brand full kit with shockers and springs for around £200, the quality wont be great but it will lower your car cheap.

Fitting should'nt be too much, its around 1.5 -2 hr's work for a garage so expect to pay about £50 to a garage to get it all fitted or maybe you and some pals could have a go as its quite a straight forward job and you'll learn a thing or 2.

Here is a tutorial someone made, maybe have a read through that see if you think you are capable enough.

i also have 15" fox racing alloys so would 40 be about rite? ad a look at the tutorial and back seems easy enough but the front could be a problem. Is it possible to clamp the springs do you know?

you'll need spring compressors. i put the strut in a vice then used 2 compressors on each side of spring.

£12.99 at halfords or arund that.

i had -35mm pi springs on stnd shocks.

they were fine, massive improvemnt in handling compared to standard (which i've only really noticed when driving the new one)

was very bumpy though, but just bought a g-max 40mm kit for £80 7 months old and should have some poly bushes in the post

depends what you want.

how low do you want to go? 40mm is recommended, 60 is too low. (edit: when i say too low i mean your standard shocks will die with 60mm, and it won't handle as well as 40mm)

if i were you, just get some pi or similar -35 springs on standard shocks, they do the job and are pretty good for the money.

if you want to spend more start thinking about full kits

i want to go as low as possible without busting the shocks very quickly. so you reckon pi springs ? i think 40 would be about right.
