Guy selling this engine says it has apparently been bored out to a 1.8, block would surely not be able to take that?

Well doing some quick maths and using sbd's site the smallest pistons they do is 79 mm which would make the stroke 81.5 and give us 1598 cc.
If you bore it out square to 81.5 mm (the biggest pistons sbd offer) it will give you 1701 cc a perfect 1.7.
To get upto a 1.8 you would need to bore it to 84mm (giving 1807cc).
Do you really think a 5mm rebore over standard is possible?

Assuming alisons was a .5 mm overbore using 79.5mm pistons it would actually make it a 1618cc. Pointless from a tuning point of view you would only do it to take up wear in the bores!

i'll find the receipts for the pistons and let you know which size they are so we can figure it out

receipts say something along the lines of supply ux Pistons 5.5mm not sure if that is the increase in piston size or the bore work that was done on the block.

like all these 2.1's.... that arent actually over 2.05
I was on 88mm pistons (max bore size) for my real 2.1 (well, rounded )
gone done to 87mm now.... so back to a 2.0
new block

ak how much are you to get the cylinders bored out, just to see if it is worth buying a bottom end and rebuilding it.

what sort of gain do you think you would get by boring it out to 1701cc. about 5bhp or something, just a guess

boring will only cost 50quid or so...
its the labour for stripping the pistons out, then in etc that'll mount it up
No replacement for displacement. But on a mild engine i wouldnt bother
