After seeing a lot of talk on here about peoples set ups etc it has got me in the mood for looking into getting myself a setup of some sort...
I had a tropical fish tank when I was younger but my dad looked after it so I fancy a go myself...
Can everyone who has them post a pic of there setup and fish etc...a list of the components they bought...and an overall price for the set-up...
Thanks

If your new to it and wanting 5ft then I would follow marklaruk's advice and got for a Juwel Rio400.
I have one of these (although no longer on its stand or with its internal filter) but still they are excellent tanks and come complete with EVERYTHING you need apart from some sand or gravel, water and fish!
Checkout aquarist-classifieds.co.uk and you can find them going for around £300-400 complete which is a bargin.
As for fish...I keep Piranha's but you best going for whatever you like the look of to be honest, purely a personal opinion.

Not really TBH.
They arent particularly active (as in needing a really long tank) and thrive on a really strong current mainly (which the tank has). They are found in fast moving rapids and stay around a small area so a 5ft tank is perfect.
Once I move it will get a bigger tank, but seems it wont grow much from now on (1/2" a year at most) their is loads of time until it needs a bigger tank.

will be fed on prawns, mussels, white fish, most meats, etc. Can also feed it live food (feeder fish and mice) but they can mess up your water so only do that on rare ocassions.
Fed a few feeder fish to my old shoal of 10 Piranhas and that was really fun watching them take each of them down!

Ive only pics of them on my comp at my apartment, so will have to post them up when Im there.
The small Piranhas (0 to 9") will only take skin with them if they bite you and will mostly swim away from your arm. So will only bite it you look like your attacking them.
The bigger guys (10"+) can be grumpy bastards and could easily bite through bone if they wanted.
The really big guys (14"+) could take a finger if they wanted.
My shoal was around 7-8" when I sold them all and they never used to bother me when I was cleaning the tank. I had another solo P that was about 9.5" and that was a big brave and used to swim around my arm but never rushed at me. I wont be putting my hand anywhere near this new guy though...he will be straight from the wild and probably a bit pissed!
