HELP me!

My car has broken down today. I was parking up my car and was driving mycar forwards to make an even gap between the two cars in front and back of me. and I put the car in 3rd by mistake instead of 1st and the ca was struggling to pull. But I only needed to put it up a touch but the car stalled and engine cut-out. I then tried to start engine and it wouldnt start. Tried to start jump-start battery even though indicator was good. nothing happened!

WTF is going on wiv ma car!!! N E ideas. N e 1 reckon it may be starter motor. The timing belt was recently replaced a month ago. U dont reckon it could be the valves damaged

Some 1 help me. I need my car on road ASAP

thanx in advance

When it cut out did it make any weird unusual noises or just the normal stalling noise, juddering etc?

yeh when I put key in the ignition the starter motor is working. basically the car is behaving like its outa fuel however there is still enough to do another 15 miles before the tank goes empty. I havent tried putting more fuel in though I dont reckon I need any just yet. Btw when it cut out its just cut out like normal, nothing unusual

Is it on a hill?

I parked my cav on a hill yesterday with no fuel, and the bugger wouldn't start. Had to push it to the bottom.

done that still wont do it. dash and radio still work so I reckon starter motor is faulty. tried bump-starting it but still wouldnt work? Would towing the car be able to activate the starter motor

if the starter isnt turning the engine over then theres 1 of your problems, however if it didnt start when you bumped it there must be another one, check for fuel and spark

Just bin bk 2 ma car 2day. best way 2 break down wots happenin is below....

All started a week ago. Battery went flat. It was an on-off at that time and got m8 to jump start my battery using jump leads.

Now yesterday what I 4got to say was before the starter motor was failing to turn engine over. The starter motor did a few times manage to activate the engine. AS I said I was parking ma car and the engine cut out. From then on for a few times I put key in2 ignition. Starter motor was starting up - but you know when the engine revs when its activated (so 2 speak) and then settles to idle speed - . Well just b4re it settled 2 idle speed the engine would cut out. ***

now if ya follow me from ystrday. The same thing happened once 2day when I went back 2 ma car. However from then on the starter motor wouldnt turn over the engine. It was behaving like there was no power at all. The battery indicator is pitch black. No sign of green. The radio and dash lights still work however the horn and the wipers r only just about working***

So I dunno quite wots wrong wiv ma car . there's still some power left in battery and 2day the engine did actually tick over for a brief second as mentioned in paragraph above. But since ystrday 2 of ma friends have tried to jump-start and bump start the car without success.

Could all this b a sign my battery is about to die completely and will need replacing. (The battery hasnt bin abused @ all and looks from the outside in a good condition.)

But does n e 1 have a clue whats going on or wot to do?

thanx

Sounds like your battery is knackered and/or the alternator isn't keeping it charged.
Another thing to check, do you have a amp(s) in your car? If so are they installed correctly so that they only come on when the stereo is on? Because if they are on all the time they will kill a battery in no time flat - I'd get that checked if you do have any amps (same applys to stereo - should only be able to turn it on when ignition is on)

If things like stereo's and amp's aren't wired properly then yes, but batteries generally only last so many years before needing replacing.

How can test if the battery is completely knackered So I can rule out if the battery or the alternator is to blame!

btw got ma car towed 2 ma house. When I put the car in2 2nd gear wen being towed. The lights on my dashboard etc became brighter. and tried to start up car. however the car wasnt havin any if it. (when I tried to activate engine. U know that weird crunching sound when you put ignition in step 3 when enine is already running)however there was a faint electrical buzzing sound when the car was geing towed. (If thats any clue to you). When i got back to my yard I was hoping the trip back to my house would provide the electric power I need to start engine. Still wouldnt do it!
The starter motor was turning over good. however that only lasted for about half a minute. and now the starter motor is only making clicking noises now.

Anyone know if the battery or alternator is faulty?

Well normally if you look at the battery indicator light it should be green for a healthy battery, you say yours is black which to me says it's a dead battery and isn't holding a charge.
Replace the battery first, if the new battery doesn't hold the charge then look at the alternator, but I think a new battery will do the trick.
Top tip: If you have a decent headunit and amp goto Vauxhall and get a battery from a Novavan 1.7 diesel.

btw tried to get car 2 start just now. battery is nearly full. Starter motor has plenty of power however, still ot igniting engine amigo.
