i have fk coilovers and i was just wondering what effect the little helper spring has, does it make it harder, or softer, and does it affect the ride height, what would happen if i removed them? also what side skirts are avaliable the same colour as my standard corsa b arches? dont want to be painting them as i want them same colour as my bumper tops and arches?

you can get replica gsi side skirts that match the arches for £109, i had them in mine before they were painted, also rob b and escortgti have them aswell as a few others, i think the steiny ones come in black aswell

The short springs in coilovers can often dislocate from the spring platform, usually if your car is jacked up, bumps, potholes or catching some big air. The helper spring stays compressed and helps hold the main spring in the platform by applying pressure on it. If you removed them you run the risk of the main spring dislocating from the platform.

^^^ But other than the above it does not effect ride performance at all. When you car is sitting the helper is fully compressed. Obviously if you took it out the car would sit a little lower but just wind the bottom seat up.
Just for interest I ran for over a year with no helpers on my coilovers - the springs did unseat if jacked up but never unseated whilst driving (it was ok but would be an MOT faliure).
