nice tvs, though sony LCDs dont seem to be as hot as they are with CRTs nor anything else for similar money, but then its like buying a aston martin - look alright, have the badge but underneath is a bag of wank made from ford parts
Saying that, its all personal preference...so its really up to the individual

can't resize this damn picture photobucket of w4nk!!
Dom, I hear what you're saying and it does come down to personal preference at the end of the day.
My mind was made up from the start to get an LCD, so that was half the job done already. I must have viewed nearly every 40" LCD there was to view in a 20 mile radius from where I live
Curry's was shocking. Some excellent TVs all hooked up to one feed. Picture quality was crap and I actually took my DVD player in with me to test them all out.
All of the reviews I've read about the Bravias have been spot on and I think Sony have done an amazing job with them. The fact that other manufacturers haven't included a backlight control amazes me as this is an essential option to have when trying to get the best picture quality. There's a whole host of picture settings that you can play with to get it just right, you can also store different settings for the different outputs.
SD looks great on it from a far enough distance, luckily I sit far enough from the TV not to notice any of the blockiness when you get up close. DVDs on the Progressive Scan Denon look fantastic also, can't fault it.
Only gripes are:
- There could have been 2 Component outputs
- Price. Costs more than other 40" however I think extra is justifiable so not really a gripe

720 mate. Haven't tried it on 1080, not sure if you can notice the difference.
Viewing angles are also amazing with no dark areas appearing when viewed from acute angles. Contrast ratios isn't in issue as you have the backlight control which you can just notch up if the picture is too dark.

Dave, what Sony does your mate have. The KDLV2000 is new and features a High Performance S-PVA panel and Sony's Live Colour Creation which makes greens and reds appear more vibrant.
It's a massive improvement over the other Bravias I must say.

me neither, both sofas sit pretty much right in front of the telly. Bonus.
I'll try it on 1080 when I get in. You do realise that whilst our televisions support a 1080 input they're not true 1080 panels?
Sony released their new X range just after i purchased the V. Basically the same TV with an extra HDMI input and a true 1080 panel. Not worth it imo.

Yea i read something about that, it downscales i think. Doesnt really bother me though, im well impressed with it anyway. Id like to see the difference these '1080' panels show though

Could you use one for a PC screen? Or would the text appear un readable?

ed - same as using a TFT if you ran the screen at native res!
But yea ive heard there alright, but personally im still not impressed especially for the money. Seen similar screens like the samsungs which offer near enough same picture but slightly cheaper.
But then again im in with the plasma and apart from the hyundai A321, for £580 its a bargin for a 32" (picture isn't shite hot but its good for 600 quid).....i'll be hard persuaded to go for an LCD.
As for the 1080, no such thing as 1080p currently as bandwidth isn't available nor the cameras to capture at that depth (though i believe sony/canon have a camera coming out?) - but 1080i is doable though

So it's a cheaper way of getting an enourmous screen like an Apple has. Thats is if they are about £700 over here right?
