Can anyone recommend a pub with good food between Gretna Green & Castle Douglas?!

Need to be on the main route through.

going to a hotel in Auchencairn, Castle Douglas for the weekend, most of the family is going but we are gonna stop somewhere for lunch, hence asking about a nice pub

Balbeatie is in middle of the two towns but dont stop there, the place is a shithole apparently. I honestly dont know any pubs down there, I know one is call the "cum inn" but I really wouldnt like to eat there.
