hello again

its been a while, thought i would give people an update
(if anybody cares lol)

my previous posts
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=254026
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=278582

recently failed my MOT on heavily corroded front brake lines
the inspector also informed me about a small area of structural corrosion on the chassis-
i decided to investigate the following weekend..

out came the hammer, screwdriver and wire brush

looked serious at first, but the corrosion had only started to penetrate the first skin of the chassis rail-
with minor blemishes spreading under the existing underseal

removed all loose metal and any consequent traces of rust
added chemical rust-treater, followed by brush-on tar, aerosol tar and a final coat of waxoyl underseal

WIP photo, but close to the finished result..

any blemishes treated and coated in a water-proof skin to prevent additonal corrosion
sorted for next years MOT, but i still wasn't satisfied.

a friend of mine owns a large farm- complete with workshop and inspection pit
(designed for tractors, but ideal for the task at hand)

he kindly lent me the entire workshop for the day, so i set to work..

same method again-
this time targeting lower sills, all seam welds, front cross-member, rear beam, petrol tank and spare wheel well

pictures nearing the finsihed result
(obviously trying to avoid over-spray on exhaust system)

a large, hidden box section towards the lower rear-quarter panel caught my eye
the lip of the fuel tank was also showing moderate corrosion- along with the rear beam

i masked off the wheel hub, bleed nipples and exhaust system
before treating with tar and waxoyl

the tar has since dried to form a flexible, durable water-proof coat
resitant to salt water and stone chips

photographs of a few extra details-
i removed and cleaned the screen-wash resovoir, due to deposits constantly blocking the lines

thanks for looking,
comments and questions welcome as always

Good work! As SportyBoy has said though the chassis can still rot from the inside, but you've caught the early corrosion on the outside now.

That car will look better with some standard vauxhall wheels or wheel trims on, but still it looks fantastic

CorsaCF-
cheers mate, keep your car mint too

corsaboy87-
glad you like it, that was at modified nationals 2006
(should have gone PVS though)

Marc + SportyBoy-
innit, there's no true escape- but we can at least slow down the rot lol

Bonney66-
i would love some original trims, perhaps the 'pepper-pot' style ones
can imagine getting raped by a dealer for them

STEvieN.I.
i love your project, i keep a close eye on it- keep it up!

thanks for all your coments, they keep me coming back

Love that colour.

Needs spokey wheels, Calibra DTM if you can find them in the four stud.

I done mine a few weekends ago too...no pics though!

Should see me through to next years mot without any problems then I punt it.

Dont like the new style mot's now they document the points raised......bah just a little surface rust & its plastered all over the certificate
