my car was over heating when sitting in traffic so wired up a switch.

i wired it up straight to the connector at the fan. am i ok to do that as it comes on at some speed now. i am scared that its going to burn the motor out.

has anyone else done this?

If it was overheating, shouldn't you have sorted that problem out? i.e. new CTS/thermostat or something?

by putting the fan on a switch that is solving the problem. the top end is getting rebuilt on 24th which will also help.

I have done this to mine - especially in traffic jams the fan is on for half hour + if its a bad jam like on the motorway - the only prob i found is the wire gets red hot

did you take the feed straight from the battery to a switch then to the fan?

Is it not solving the effect rather than the cause?

all corsa's overheat when sitting in traffic. by puting the fan on a switch i can turn it on before the car reaches 98 degrees.

What Sam ment is surely you sould be sorting out the reason it's over heating (solving the problem). not putting a "fix" in place by putting a switch on the fan.

Change the thermostat etc when rebuliding the top end.

if you have done this then please go and remove it now..

the correct way to bypass the fan switch in the rad, is to bridge the two wires to it.. ie cut the two wires to the fan switch on the rad, take the two ends and wire a switch in between them (extend the wiring to inside the car) then also rejoin the wiring to the switch in the rad this allow the fan to come on automatically also

well thats what i was going to do but it said in another post that a feed can be taken straight from the battery.

will sort it later.

just straight from the fan to a switch which makes the circuit complete making the fan work all the time

damn you, i've got an aircon heater control panel from a scrappy purely for this purpose, to use the aircon switch for the fan, hoping it would be something different and not done before

i have run two cables from the switch to the connector on the radiator, i then cut one cable at a time putting both parts of the cable cut and one of the cables from the switch into a connector. then the same for the second cable on the radiator connector
