Is it too late in the season to put turf down and it turn out decent? They have it at B&Q by front door but it always looks dead Garden needs doing and dont know whether to leave it until next year

grass grows till late october, plant some seeds and scared the birds off

it'd probably be alright, you dont want it to get frost on it, so this time of year would probably be alright, as long as you keep it wet

dont really want to seed it as it never turns out right-really hard to get it perfectly level. anyone got any tips?

You don't have much time left... I would not personally seed now until March... if we get much frost then it will not do it much good... you could try kayign seeded turf but again... also, September is generally fairly warm and dry... you want a lot of rain really to help it bed in and mesh quickly

we wont be getting frost for another good few months and it only took about 3 weeks for mine to come to that above

It was freezing her elast hight... if this nice weather continues then it wil lfrost soon as there is little cloud cover

Also keep trimming it every few weeks at first.. .that way any water is much more effective and less gets lkost in the growth!

If you want to seed a lawn do some research into it.

I once seeded a lawn and it turned out shite...after a chat with a greenkeeper (and a year later) it turned into wimbledon centre court

it depends on ground conditions though....

Realoly good to rotavate forst and remove as many stones as possible and also top soil is great for helpign the spread!!

You may have been lucky then...generally a clay subsoil will result in more moss than grass even if you turf it.

Different species of grass can help though

says you can lay turf from early autumn to late spring, so i guess its just summer you need to avoid?

Turf is simple.

basically, if you butt the turfs up next to eachother, so they rise up slightly, then push them down gently with a plank, it'll be perfect

and keep it wet.
