My insurance won't cover me for theft or damage caused by attempted theft as apparantely the alarm/immob on the corrado isn't classed as a cat 1 thatcham approved any more

its a scorpion 5000, fitted when new, and says its cat 1 approved blah blah, so i guess its moved down the list and fell off the bottom

Anyone recommend an alarm? fitted etc?

whats involved in fitting, don't want the car pulled apart

is it best to buy alarm then get someone to fit it, or do the fitters supply it?

My mate got an alarm off eBay (cant remember if it was a Clifford or a Toad) then had it fitted by an alarm fitter. Worked out cheaper to do it that way and cos it was fitted by an approved fitter he still got the certificate needed to show his insurance. The alarm fitter wanted a few hundred £££ more to supply the same alarm.

1 is better. 2 is just a immob to XYZ specs, and cat 1 is an alarm+immob to XYZ specs. If it has an alarm and its still cat 2 then it means the alarm probabaly doesnt meet cat 1 standards.

As for an alarm i had a Toad Ai606 fitted to my corsa. Had 4 door central locking fitted at the same time and it cost me £315 for the lot, took him about 3 1/2 hours to do it. Good alarm though, had no problems so far.

Will be cheper than you think if you go to a good fitter.
They will probably use the existing wiring on the scorpian and just fit a new siren and sensor etc. so shouldn't be too bad!
