1.4 8v, it won't break as much. 1.2 16v's have far more sensors break than the 8vs

I'd say the 1.2 as it was newer and will be better at higher speeds. The 1.4 might pull better though.

1.4 8v 60bhp, (SRI 82bhp) 1.2 16v 65bhp
1.2 will be a more refind engine but a few common faults with certain sensors, no cambelt to change, good lillte engine
1.4 better low down tourque
to some it up get a 1.4 16v!

get the 1.4 8v MPI found in the early SRI's, 82bhp never caused me any troubles at all when i had it in my corsa, quite quck for what they are aswell and cheap to buy.
i have one for sale aswell

Ive got a 1.4 8v SRi and i find it decent enough, enough power and a nice car to drive, plus the engine being a bullet proof 8v not a lot is going to go wrong (which, touch wood, nothing has yet) Basically, i'd reccomend it!

I've had a 1.0 12v, 1.2 16v, 1.2 8v, 1.4 8v & a 2.0 16v
Nearly all of them
1.2 16v is the ecotec, had a few problems with sensors. Not that cheap to sort, especially when you consider it could happen again at any time
The 1.2 8v is far to slow. Very reliable though
1.4 8v is really nice to drive. I have the breeze hi-torq model, not mind bendingly fast but torquey enough to feel quicker than the 1.2 16v even though it has less power. Less likely to go wrong mechanically just like the 1.2 8v
Motorway wise the 1.4 sits at 70-80 with ease, the 1.2 16v felt like it was being stretched & didn't respond as well if you did need to speed up
Hope this helps

another question sorry! found the insurance will probs cost too much for a 1.4 so can u just tell me this. i currently have a 1.2 8v premier but find that it is pretty dead, on acceleration. should i keep it for its reliablity or get a 1.2 16v?

1.4 8v 60bhp single point injection is group 3, one group higher than your 1.2
1.4 8v 82bhp multi point injection is group 6 which might be your problem.
What model of car you looking at? Also have you got quotes on all of these - that alone might make your decision. Curiously, some insurers prefer newer cars which might also mean that you can insure a 1.4 16v for less than an MPI 8v.

Depends on the model. My 1.4 8v LS 5door is group 4.
