Pricing up a top of the range system, going to be used for intensive graphics work, 3D modelling and rendering. If anyone has such a machine at their workplace, a spec from that would be handy...
Ideally:
Dual Core or better (preferably AMD)
Motherboard
Twin output Gfx card
Minimum 4 gig RAM
SATA drives
Must be reliable, in other words not MSI
I can sort peripherals myself, just need some links/ideasirecommendations for the components matching the above criteria... price is not a priority.
Cheers guys

been a while since I messed around with PCs.
I have always found Corsair's XMS memory to be very stable and has always performed well when compared to other ram. There may be different makes out there now though.
Get yourself an Asus motherboard as well, top quality mobos with tonnes of features. I recommend the Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4.
Perhaps consider 2 Nvidia graphics cards in SLI mode? Perhaps the 7950 which has 1GB of ram.
AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4800+ is quite a good chip, not too expensive either. If money isn't an option then the FX62 might be an option
For hard drives, I would choose the Western Digital Raptor's.
This is all decent stuff and I wasn't working on a specific budget

Most of what you've put down there agrees with what I was thinking, got the non SLi version of that board in my machine now, Nvidia gfx cards always preferred along with AMD chips.
Was thinking twin Raptors set up in raid, should see me nicely.
Cheers Sofaman!

SLi mode!! It's the best thing since Invisible Crust Bread. AMD CPU everytime also. Agree 100% with above posts. Would also like to add recomendation for OCZ RAM. It's awesome.

no worries Splashback
Twin Raptors would be immense. I have always preferred AMD but I've heard recently that Pentiums newest chips outperform AMDs equivelent by 15-20%
OCZ ram is great stuff but I think it's geared towards those who want to overclock and get every last drop of juice out of their system.
Good alternative though.

i am an AMD man through and through, but the new Core2 Conroe chips from Intel absolutely obliterate anything by AMD. you neednt even have to go for the top of the line Extreme model, just an E6700 with 4MB l2 cache will see you nicely. couple this with an Nvidia 7900 card on a decent SLi board and you will be away. Corsair for RAM too. and WD or Seagate 10k RPM drives are the way to go, sata2 of course

If you can wait long enough get a dx10 card.
Then even if its not for gaming you'll still be able to play the latest ones if you want to.

Do any of the rendering programs use direct x though?
I'm not sure how they work but they may use dx10 in the future too.
