Good and bad.
How old are you? They are worth it and have merits, but if mis treated can be very, very bad.

I only use mine when I can't use cash/debit card or online. I did however pay for my tyres with the credit card as I couldn't afford to pay in one go. Not something I want to get in to the habit of.

If your sensible though and can manage your funds you can use a credit card for its advantages such as the 0% interest rates etc.
As long as you pay the debt off at the end of each month you will have nothing to worry about and also having a card helps your credit rating

I have a credit card and have never got myself into any trouble.
LIke Mark said so long as you clear the bill end of each month so dont incurr any interest there isnt really a problem.

Same, mine is for emergencies. IMO its silly not to have one, especially as if you dont use them they dont cost anything.

As has been said, shop about for 0% on purchases for the first few months, if youve got a good credit score, you should have no probs getting one.

i'm looking to do the same, just get one to pay for petrol etc, then pay it all off at the end of the month.
i'm 21 with no credit history (main reason i want to get one) - would i have any problems getting one?

Depends how much youve got coming in, going out, if you've got a student loan/student account etc. As long as you have no bad debts etc and a decent wage coming in you should be fine.
The mint card has 0% on purchases till July!

If you are just getting one to use and pay off at the end of each month just use a debit card and avoid the hassle and temptaion!!!

It's not a hassle though.
I pay everything through my credit card and get cashback.
Unless you get a cashback debit card why not get paid money, no matter how little, for using a different card?

Fair enough if you know you can't control the spending don't get one.
Or get one with a direct debit to pay off in full every month and a small enough limit that you can easily deal with.

I only use mine for the benefits you get and pay what i owe each month. When i was younger (21 now) i used to just max them and pay minimum amounts.
Don't fall into that rut.
