yes this is legal, i have a copy of xp, and coming to reformatting the the pc i can only fin the discs and not the dam code. can i get one anywhere

Of course extracting the key from your own install (as long as it was legit in the first place) is legal. You can read it straight out of the registry.

have a look on the side of your case, or inside your case, or yes just look in ur registry if you havent already formartted

they wont
you need to prove you are the legit owner of the licence, so you need your COA sticker to quote them...
they check the other numbers on the COA sticker, if you dont have it, you need to buy a new licence.
