I'm wanting to get myself a bike sometime just before or after christmas. Having not yet done my bike test, and having no prior bike insurance, I'm finding it hard to find a decent insurance quote on a sports bike.
I'd like something like a CBR600, or a R6.. basiaclly, something about that size, and with a nice look to it. Also want it to be no older than 97/98.. and no more then £2500 to buy.
So far, I've had quotes for around £2500 FC, and £1000 TPFT, for a 97 CBR600. I'm 23 and live in Bolton.
Can anyone reccoment either a cheap bike to insure, or an insurance company that might be cheap for me?
Cheers!

125 is too small!
I'd like something that I can do a run to & from London on at the weekends, without screeming its tits off!
I'm not too arsed about comfort.
OJ, whats an SV?

SV650 without a doubt.
Massive following, great vee twin engine (Ducati sound), loads of torque, engouh umph to have a pillion, cheap everything (mostly) 60mpg, 135mph, 0-60 in around 3.5. Starts to die off around 80mph. Loads of modifications available as well (screens, huggers etc)... 2 different shapes (curvey and pointy, curvey is the older), but 6 different versions. For sub £2.5k, you will be looking at an S1 or S2 (Curvey model).
Or, somthing like a Bandit, or Hornet 600 etc....
Any sports bike will rape you on insurance if your a new rider. I pay £222 FC, protected NCB, and used every day for work....

SV's are ok
what about something like a yamaha trx800, or an RVF (may be out of your budget)
Hornet 250 or 600, bandit 400 or 600

SV's are brilliant More than I knew. Its a budget bike, but its very good in the minitwins and theres a very helpfull crowed (someone lent me a tool to remove my engine, couldn't do it otherwise, and i've never spoken to him!!).
Bandit 400cc, anything sub 400cc isn't worth it (unless its an RD350, or Aprillia RS250 (Or Suzuki RGV)).
Deffo stick to the 600cc area, and don't got for a sports bike. Go for a commuter/cruiser like mentioned above. I personnally cannot stand the thundercats (styling wise), and they are meant to be quite bland and boring to ride, but they do the job..

I said sub 400cc plonker.
And i'd go for a ZXR400 over an NC30. And he wont get an RVF400 below £2.5k. A lot more rarer than the NC30..

so you did
rvf will be a dog for 2.5k
zxr will be alot rarer than the nc30, and prices are a premium because of the popularity in racing still

Not really keen on the commuter/cruiser stuff.. I like them to have all the fairings & wide tyres etc..
I got a decent quote on a 98 R6.. I might read up a bit on those.

Thundercat, SV650(S), Hornet, Bandit etc are all commuter/cruiser stuff. All sporty, but not sports bikes (like R6, CBR, GSXR etc).
My SV has the full fairing kit, rear hugger etc, looks like a sports bike. The newer pointy ones are even more sporty looking.
98 R6 is one of the early ones, always stear clear from the early models of any bike (or car tbh) as its the testers on the road.
Best part about the commuter style bikes (were not takling CB500 jobbies here lol), is they are dirt cheap, and if your a new rider, you will come off at some point.

Passed your test at 21..
Bought a 600cc Sports bike.
Then paid TPFT insurance...
Some people do make me chuckle... You'll learn with time and experience why not to go tpft on a bike.....

I'd buy an NC30 VFR 400, dunno if its better or worse than others, but i'd have one for the noise.

Try Hastings Direct.
Bennet (but to me they were pricey).
Stear WELL clear of Bikesure, as its just another name for Adrian "we have no customer service" flux. Had nightmares with them.
And please don't cut corners and go tpft. If you have an off, it'll be expensive. Get Protected NCB if possible as well. It doesn't cost too much more, but is well worth it.
