Im getting a Canon 400d soon to replace my old faulty camera. Getting it with the kit lens plus a 70-300. Just wondering if people recommend the battery grips for them? Would mean I can use my old AA batterys for it as well, but dont know if spending £100ish is worth it

Try the camera first.
If you are happy with the size I wouldn't bother.
Just buy a battery for a tenner.
Most people for the 350d (and 400 because its just the same) buy the grip to make the camera bigger and easier to hold.
I'm quite happy with the size of the 350d.

Means more in your hand instead of the bag but it looks cooler, gives you more to hold and less to think about.

It sounds like a good idea, I've been to Jessops quite a few times trying the camera as well as the nikon d80, Which I've been trying to decide between. I much prefer the feel and hold of the nikon but decided I cant justify the extra money for it, so im going for the canon, despite it not feeling as good a build quality and not as comfortable to hold.
John, where can you get a NB-2LH battery for a tenner?

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=NB-2LH+
iirc the real ones are only 20 quid.
From what i've read the copies are just as good as the real thing.
