you can get bi bits, which are 2 bulbs, but they electronically slide to allow low and full beam, sounds a bit dodgy to me

I fancy these for the Astra, but I know nothing about them or what I'd need, etc.

Seen these before, and would love a set. Only thing that worries me is how cheap they are in comparison to what other UK places sell them for (£350+). Could be just them not being greedy, or could be shite workmanship, and shoddy components that'll only last 13 months .

My boyfriend has HID's on his Astra.
Looking at that kit on ebay seems like they are a good deal.
If you have seperate bulbs for dipped and high beam then yes you would need to convert the lights fully.
They are so much better than the standard bulbs that we tend to not use main beam anymore as they light the road (And road signs) so much better.
As for the dipped/main beam ones in one bulb thats for cars fitted with H4 bulbs and work really well still but cost more.
There is a user/company on www.astrasport.co.uk doing a group buy/discount on HID's that come with a 3 year warranty if your worried abouth the quality for £105.
If you want any more info just ask.
EDIT: That link above is the company that is doing the group buy on Astrasport

My mate has a HID conversion on his Punto. Its just on the dipped beam. He got them from Genuine Auto. Had them nearly a year now and not had any problems.

The HIDs on my a3 are only headlights (low) as standard, mainbeam (high) is just normal bulbs.

That's standard procedure. I have the same on my Corsa.
You never use HID xenon on mainbeam (high) because it takes the bulb some seconds to warm up. When you turn on the xenon it starts very dim but then in increases in light intensity as it gets warm. And the xenon doesn't like to be switches on/off multiple times! So you only use xenon on headlights (low).
