I plan on buying some tools and converting my garage into a half decent workshop. What tool ranges should i consider? Snap on are way out of my budget but the Halfords professional range seem reasonably priced with a lifetime guarantee. Has anyone had any experience with these tools?

thanks

Get a Halfords pro full set of sockets, spanners and torx bits. Friend of mine has this and it's the nuts. Set him back about £200 but it has everything you need with a lifetime garuntee.

Halfords Pro are decent for the money and you dont really get any problems if you have to take them back

I use halfords pro stuff, very very good qualityeasily as good as facom and just as good as snap-on in most cases but a lot cheaper. just so happens I have been out today to get some more.

make sure you get a trade card befrore you buy them tho, usually save 20-50%

its also worthwhile asking in halfords if they have any ex display stock, can normally get a good amount knockked off the price if there one of two bits missing

my socket set and ratchet was normally £100, knocked down to £50 ex display and it only cost me a couple of quid to get the missing peices

just take a made up pay slip in and ur driving licence and anyone can get it, just make the company name up, they dont check!

you save so much money on stuff, for example 5 litres of oil and a filter for my xe corsa was about £34 before trade card and about £20 after so well worth it!

yeah, even if you can get a hold of invoices for parts and they think you spend a bit of money on parts they'll give you one

got my disks and pads for about just over £20 this morning

one thing about halfords tools, the red tool boxes arent great, the black ones seem much better but are a fair bit more expensive

www.shacktools.com seems to have decent prices for britool stuff

laser and sealey stuff is also quite good for the money and probably cheapre than halfords. Most motor factors will sell it. Or there is britool or draper which is slightly more expensive. Halfords stuff seems good for the money though.

Depends on what tools of theirs you are using. I mainly have snap on but have some large laser sockets which i have failed to break so far although dont really use large sizes that much. i cant justify spending £40 a socket on the large ones when you can get them for £4 from motorfactors!
