Flash comes with tutorials in the program itself.
Can be self taught, just takes a bit of patience, i made some shitty animated stuff, didn't look too good, but was all self taught.

flash is pretty easy to pick up as long as you have the patience and will happily sit through the tutorials.
the help files are also very god imo

I struggled with flash just didnt have the patience but if you've got the time then you should be OK You can get other programs though that do what flash does but not in as much detail but are easier to use if you can't be arsed.

I'd say the simple stuff can be self taught but I studied it in my second year of uni and found the development environment over complicated and very annoying
