Just ordered an LCD TV. I want to buy some surround sound for it too.
I wondered if it would be possible to hook this up so it works with TV/DVD/Xbox/PS2 aswell as my stereo set up, and if so, how
Cheers

One way of doing it is to get a switch box, providing the audio outputs on all devices are the same.
I'd imagine they will all have the red and white phono outs.
In which case you could get a switch box and switch between them.
Maplin will do them

Or id imagine a lot of the amps that come with surround sound packages will accept more than one input

most decent amps for the surround sound will have more than one input, so you just make use of those inputs then you select which one you want to listen to depending on what your using!

You should try and get one with a dedicated amp.
The amp for that one is inside the DVD player and as far as I can see, it takes no phono inputs.

My stereo is connected to my tv, which has the xbox and freeview box plugged into it.
i have scart to scart on the freeview and the xbox, and scart to phono on the stereo.
it works fine, and the stereo is similar to the amp on a surround sound setup (in that you put a cable in and sound comes out )

Are these the kinds of amps you mean?
AS I already have one similar to those for my music set up?

If you get an all-in-one sort of thing, like the link, just make sure it has Dolby prologic II, this means it can change any 2 channel input to surround sound (playstation red and white wires for example)
I think most of them do anyway these days, not looked for years tbh. But still...

I would scrap the normal stero to be honest unless it is really good quality and just run eveything through the new setup.

That one only has 2 inputs so you wouldnt beable to run ps2, dvd and xbox. You would have to unplug one.
Personally I would do for a bigger unit that has slightly more to offer.

OK. Would you be so kind as to point out a couple of amps to me please. As I really dont know what im looking for.
As for scrapping the stereo set up, id rather not. Its not an amazing set up im sure. Its just a sony CD, MD and amp seperated which cost me just under £500 a couple of years ago.
