I have a gsi with a brand new engine fitted, it has only done 8k. The engine was fitted by a previous owner and ever since black smoke has been coming out of the exhaust.
Ive heard it can be psiton rings or valve stem seals but its such a new engine?
Im unsure to wether it is burning the oil or it is running rich? If a car is running rich would the oil level go down? There are no leaks on the car.
The previous owner had a new lambda sensor i fitted, i beleive these can be a cause of running rich.

if the smoke is grey/black then its running rich
if the smoke is blue then its oil and if its white then its coolant

well its black smoke but the oil level still goes down? Does the engine still drink oil if its running rich?

i would say just at high revs, it hardly ever goes over 3k when im driving normally but occassionally all the way to the top when im booting it.

mine burns oil at high revs and thats due to the valve stem seals leaking

would a brand new engine not need running in and smoke a little during the running in?

after 8k the engine will be well run in. could possibly be the problem, it may not have been run in properly and the rings and bores may have been battered to fook in the first couple hundred/thousand.
do a compression test and let us know the results.
