This is the 2nd time a gearbox has gone on my 106 gti, but the old one went due to old age. This one went due to santa pod sticky surface and my crappy mounts.

Nailed it off the lights at santa pod today and it went bang! shearing the gearbox mount from the gearbox.

oh poo..

(this was all the oil left at the end of the strip)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to recover from this situation?

Shall I just buy a new 2nd hand gear box and get it fitted? or shall I try to repair this one? I think the internals are completely fine! How much to get a new 'part of the bell housing' ... the part that's damaged is the closest to the engine? or is that part of the engine? I can't remember what the box looks like off the car, it looks like its the part with the clutch in that's gone, but then I didn't think that had any oil in it? so why would blowing a hole in it there cause oil to come out?

The thing was caused (I think) by uprating the top engine mount to group n, but not the other 2 (I was told by people this was ok and not needed).

The gearbox has twisted on one side and not the other and sheared the mount

There was a lad on SSC who had a super charged VTS runing about 250-260.

He went through gear boxes like they were sweets in the hands of a fat kid

Am i right in say that the engine move is what caused it to pull on a fixed mount and just tear a great big hole ??

Worse part is I got crap times (well 14.9's) due to excessive wheel spin off the line.

My terminal speed was similar to sly_sri's (93 / 94 mph) - so if I hadn't of wheel spun so much I may of done similar times as him (14.4 - 14.5's).

On the one run I got a great launch, I thrashed a CTR off the line and then the gear box went bang.

106 gti's just dont like to be modded. If its kept standard its far better.
