Read this earlier, might not be a bad move. They're not using him at United so how is supposed to get his fitness back? They're saying hes only played 3 games buts thats part of the problem! He needs bringing on in league games to get his fitness back. Against Rooney, Saha and even Ole he doesn't really have a chance.
It might be good for him to have a spell in the Championship as he might be under less pressure. Its not like they're sending him to Leeds!

Good move for him imo. Cardiff are doing well and he would benefit from more first team football

Great move for Cardiff, I would of liked him at Southend to be honest (even if I do think he is an idiot)

Why not??
Championship club, and English club, shown that we have a good little squad with ambition when we beat him in the week.
Ok Cardiff are doing well but even so, Southend is a nice place to play football.

If they get him I am tipping Cardiff to win the Championship definately...
Good signing at that level...
If they play him up front they have him and Chopra who is an excellent player too...

Cardiff are established and pushing for the Prem. Man Utd need him to land in a team where they are already doing well. Won't be good for his confidence if he did join Southend then they get relegated. Where as if he joins Cadiff and wins promotion to the Prem he'll be sky high.

Yeah I see your point there Nath, but say Cardiff and Southend are both mid-table, there is no reason to pick them over us

Agreed. I'd love to see him in a Luton shirt but it aint gonna happen. We don't have that allure. If we had a nice new stadium then it'd be totally different. We desperately need the board to match the ambition of the fans and players

Did you see his article in the sun yesterday?
They made it look like he only had a MGF when he has just sold his X5 for a BMW 6 series!
He has now been given permission by the council that it's ok to stay on the land he is on now

Ipswich now in the run
Town Target Smith
By Philip Ham
Date: 11/11/2006
Town are one of a number of clubs targeting the loan signing of Manchester United striker Alan Smith. The Blues seem unlikely to succeed in their bid with Cardiff City and Smith's former club Leeds United leafing the chase.
Boss Jim Magilton has phoned Sir Alex Ferguson to make his interest known, while Simon Walton, a colleague of Smith's at Leeds, will be giving the England striker a call to try to persuade him in the direction of Portman Road.
Magilton said: "That would be an amazing coup if we could get Alan. We know it is difficult but we are trying our hardest and if Simon can help with a call then even better."
Sir Alex Ferguson said yesterday that Smith had already held talks with Cardiff: "The fact we are no longer in the Carling Cup, I thought a short-term loan would be ideal.
"I think he has spoken to someone at Cardiff but he is not certain about whether to take it or not.
"He really needs football and reserve team football is really for the youth team and doesn't present the right challenge for an experienced player like Alan."
Cardiff's interest alerted Leeds with new manager Dennis Wise saying: "We have only just found out about his availability, but there's a possibility of a deal."
Meanwhile, defender James Krause will spend time on trial with Carlisle ahead of a proposed loan move.
Cork City midfielder George O'Callaghan will continue his trial with Town having recovered from a bout of shingles which recently saw him spend two days in hospital. O'Callaghan, whose illness was wrongly reported to be meningitis, looked set to join the Blues on loan in January prior to his ill health.
