Anyone on here a CAD technician using AutoCAD?

What qualifications do you have? How big a company do you work for?

After an idea on how much people are getting paid for this sort of work aswell if people dont mind putting it up on here that is.

I've just got my HNC in Civil Engineering, also have an ONC in Building Studies and a City & Guilds in AutoCAD so trying to work out what a reasonable wage would be for me...

edit - u2u me if you dont want to discuss on here.

Thanks

Bloody hell I am being well under paid!!!

I'm on min wage as an apprentice at the mo!

I will be looking at near enough doubling my wage or going elsewhere I think...

I'm 22 and have 5 years CAD experience plus my qualifications.

Only problem is I have been held back alot working where I am now so my 5 years experience probably isn't half of what most peoples is. Dont get to put my own ideas into anything, just basically treated like a machine and always told what to do rather than given the experience to start doing things myself!

eek, really?
that makes me feel better.

I joined the company im with now (Bridges Electrical) as a trainee Electrical Design Engineer.
They paid for me to do a HNC in Plant and Process Principles (engineering) which i passed very well.

Ive been with them for just over 3 years. I started on a very low wage, and now im on 22k. was on 18k 7 months ago.
Im not the boss in my office, i certainly dont know half as much as the other 2 design engineers, but they are much old than myself and have much more experience.

a_j you should be on more than by a long shot, if your ONLY doing that, and not in charge of anything else or have any other responsabilities, i would expect you to be on atleast 25k -28k.
You should be asking for 20k not 18 if you want 18.

check out my posts, i was in a very similar position to you.
My Annual Wage Review at xmas (earning 14k prior to that)
My Wage Review result

and since i left college, its now 22k with 2 extra days hols.

speaking from experience guys, a printed out CV and an excellent cover note goes a long way.
If i was you, i would search online for companies that may do what your interested in, and view their website etc and post your CV/Cover note out of the blue.

We occasionally get them here and it shows alot of willing.

You lot are loonies, CAD engineers here get min £25 per hour, and that could just be a tracer. A full blown say Electrical Engineer who uses CAD will get between £40-60 per hour.

not sure what world you live in, but it aint this one.
Not outside of london anyway.
All the big companies i see advertising for CAD techs are paying in the 20's saleries

although, let me know if you see a job online for a CAD Tech and not the Design Project Manager

What do tracers do these days?

I know in the past before CAD they were the people that traced the drawings after the actual draughtsman had done them.

Ah right. They copy from paper into CAD.

I do that at work sometimes when people send drawings through that have been done by hand (some of the Architects still in the stone ages round here)

I think my boss would be pretty buggered if I left as I do the majority of CAD work and have the most experience in the office aswell. So he is going to have to start paying me well if he wants to keep me here.

wages up here are nothing like what they are down south and in the big citys

i may be the senior technician but still have alot to learn. i used to be sitting in the corner as a CAD monkey at my last office, best thing i ever did was move.
