My renewal is up in January, so I have just used confused.com to find the cheapest quotes on my Golf. The two quotes I have are with and without declaring alloys and lowering.
Alloys and lowering not declared: £1072.24
Alloys and lowered declared: £1865.85 <---- (only quote it gave me, Admiral)
No wonder people don't declare things.

If thats the only mod its not really worth it, you can remove it.

most insurance companies do up your premium if the mod doesnt effect the performance, eg exhaust, air filter

Yeah, ring up and talk to them. The internet isn't great for quoting for mods.

my insurance said they don't mind mods aslong as i'm not doing anything to the engine, but air filter / exhaust is fine, they said turbo'ing it would effect the insurance. Wild body kits / flash paint will cost on the insurance if declared, but tbh i'd declare it, my mate got stopped by the old bill in his xr2i and it's more of an enthusiasts car, not boy racer but it has been lowered on different wheels and the police done an insurance check and were quizing him on whether it was declared or not!

quinn direct wont quote on modded cars until you send them a copy of an engineers report and your driving licence. plus they have a dodgy clause in their t&c's about modded cars.

ive got a modified car policy, only problem is a 450 excess and a very grey area of what i'll actually get back if i do claim, spoke about an agreed value to one person and they gave me the idea that i'd get that, then other said something about getting as much back as possible they can for mods and mentioned a modded car market value which doesn't really fill me with confidence since my cars market value is about 10 pence.
