ported and polished head with enlarged inlet and exhaust ports. skimmed and pressure tested. rebuilt with new valves, gaskets, head bolts etc..
shrick 268 cams
matzel inlet manifold
enlarged throttle body
k&n filter with samco hose
pro-tech 4-1 exhaust manifold
decat pipe
magnex cat back exhaust system
10mm ht leads
helix sports clutch
lightened and balanced flywheel 5.4kgs
superchip
dastek unichip
arp rod bolts
sbd rollers
sbd cam belt cover
blue rocker cover
new spark plugs, cambelt, cambelt tensioner, oil filter, coolant, radiator, coolant temprature sensor, afm, gaskets,
rolling road figures
when it was rolling roaded the coolant temp sensor was broken and it was overfuelling at a ratio of 13.1. the guy rolling roading it also said he didnt want to take it over 7000 cos it started going lean.
161bhp at 7000rpm
125 ft.lb at 7000rpm
graph was done when it was at 150.4bhp. will try and get a new one up tomorrow.
hpoing to get close if not more than 170bhp when it gets fixed.

Leo, get your graph posted up. will be good to overlay the 2 on my mapping programme and see how the power and torque curve differs between a tb'd engine and one with a mantzel

might not be down to mapping, mantzel inlets are notorious for having dips in power due to the inlet design.
I mapped my engine and set cam timing to produce torque higher in the rev range, lots of x16xe's seem to lose the torque very early around 4-5k rpm and then go on to high bhp figures which is a bit pointless imo. Good head design also helps this as thats the limiting factor (apart from cam size) when you get to this stage.

i think am keeping it. i am away to get dbilas vernier pulleys and viper induction kit and i think that will be it.
i never thought i would get 161 on standard managment and when the guy said i am looking at 170 when he maps it again without the pulleys and filter on, i thought i be aswell trying for closer to 180
will be going back to wallace performance mid next month.

leo, forget about figures, its all in how it performs. I would prefer a 150bhp tb'd engine over an engine with 170 bhp and a mantzel anyday as it would be a lot quicker.

well i have drove my brothers ibiza cupra R turbo with 180bhp and mine feels a lot quicker. i havent raced many things yet.
i'm not for one second saying that if my car had 170-180bhp that would be anywhere near as quick as yours or any other tb'd 1.6

indeed. correct me if im wrong but the point of modifying an engine is to make the car faster rather than gain good bhp figures. when my engine was last mapped it mad 185 bhp by adjustments to cam timing but the torque was dropping off early and the car wouldnt have performed as well on the road as the setup with the lower bhp figure.
If Leo makes over 170bhp on his engine with a mantzel then that is a fantastic figure! well done and you will be the first I know to have done it. I gave up on mine when I made 150ish bhp as there was physically nothing else I could have done to gain more power out of it other than fit huge cams, 9k rev limits and steel bottom end etc... but even then I doubt I would have made 170 bhp.
I am not disputing loes power figure, I know with the right mapping and a well setup engine on the right RR these engines can make 160+ on that setup. I have seen it done before but if you are after a genuinely Fast engine then save the cash, ditch the mantzel and get some tb's on there, you wont be dissapointed. I went from a 150bhp mantzel engine to a 150 bhp tb'd engine and the difference is massive. so smooth and power from 2k rpm.
