When I asked for suggestions for cars within 2.5k up to insurance group 15, how come no one said s1 rs turbo? I can afford one it seems, and insure. They are definately nice cars but getting on a bit, are they just not worth it?

They're likely to be a bit tatty for 2.5k these days
Not exactly devastatingly fast as standard either
For your budget, you'd be better getting a clean '90 spec S2, or even a Fiesta, but they're all 13 years old + still, and rot quite badly.

You'd probably have to spend a lot more than 2.5k for a tidy S1, loads of S2's for that money. Have you considered the Fiesta to be differant?

Why never an S2 Butler?
They are gonna be in slightly better condition I'd have thought too?
I've posted pics of my mates one before which when he brought it wasn't great condition, but he's now spent about £15k on it on a new engine, all the setting up by Ahmed and generally tidying it up! And its still not finished!!
I'd have thought for £2.5k, you may struggle to find an ERST that is in good enough condition to not end up spendind shed loads of money on...

You may get lucky and find a decent(ish) S1 wthin the RS ownersclub. Problem is it will be far from mnt and will take constant restoration.
If your looking for one that you just just simply drive and enjoy get a fully restored one which would set you back from 4-7k which is a snip compared to the restoration costs.
I would say stick to a middle ground of 3.5k and you may even get one without a cracked dashboard
