just over 6 months ago I sold my first car (mint silver GSI). I loved my little Corsa to bits, but alas things kept going wrong and the repair bills were getting rather large.
I'd only been driving a year, but wanted something a bit nippy. In the end it came down to Cupra R, clio 182 and the civic type R.
The Cupra would of worked out cheaper in the long run (mods) but a mint Type R came up at a good price so I took the plunge.

Mugen replica Grille, S2000 Push start with carbon fibre surround, VTEC light, Earthing Kit, AEM V1 CAI Induction kit , Blueflame exhaust, Hondata Gasket shield, Hondata K-pro progamable ecu.
Chuck it at anything in the dry, but can be slippery in the wet. Steering feel could be better, but apart from that no other complaints.
Launch control is set at 3,500 revs, VTEC now kicks in at 4,200 revs which transforms the car.
Touch wood no running problems after 8k worth of driving

Need to get a LSD next.

v-tec is set too early imo!! v-tec engaging at the original revs is best
white is so so nice aswell, but black is nice too, hate how the gear knob is

Well if you look at the dyno chart of a standard R you will see there is a rather large flat spot before the VTEC kicks in. Honda did it so you can feel the vtec kick more. Mines been mapped for my mods so it's set at the best point for my set up.

i wouldnt alter where v-tec comes in as oil pressure isnt great enought at 4000rpm to sustain good pressure to camshafts

Also note honda are using the same engine in the New civic but with a Lower vtec point to get more out of it.
White is only available to the japs

Gear stick position is great as it's so close to the steering wheel.
On the revs thing Ill double check on the laptop what it's actual setting is, but it's def coming not far after the 4 mark. As said I'm using a map set up by tuners on rolling road as I'm not smart enough to play with all the settings and set it myself

IMO unless you have either some aftermarket cams its a waste of time.
Honda didn't just make an arbituary point in the RPM range and say this is where the cam will switch lobes. They would have spent lots of time and money analysing the power and turque curve of the engines to find the optimum switch over point.
So unless you change the power curve theres no point in changing the switch over point.
The only exception to this is the H22a powered Preludes, for some reason (most likely emmisions) Honda didnt set it at the optimum point.

I'll have to post some scans of the power read out from the last rolling road before I had it re-mapped and you will see what I mean.
The K-Pro is a serious bit of kit that works. Unlike the vtec controlers it can adjust cam angle

Here's some info from the web site.
How did we do it?
The K series engines add another dimension to Honda tuning: iVTEC or to be specific an intake cam that can be varied by as much as 25 degrees on the fly. The main changes were advancing the ignition, leaning the fuel a little and tuning for higher octane.
What do others think?
Feedback is very positive. This modification makes the car very smooth to drive. Read some customer feedback and see also a review on Temple of VTEC. We have two reports back of 0-60 times being lowered by half a second. Two others running just a CAI, ECU upgrade and test pipe are running 14.1 and 14.2 seconds for the 1/4 mile.
Can an Acura dealer erase this program?
Only if another update is released could an Acura dealer erase your existing program. If Honda/Acura comes out with an upgrade you are not obliged to have it installed. If you do not wish to have the dealer program installed there is a wire you can disconnect or cut, to prevent reprogramming. The charge for restoring an erased program is $75 (cashiers check or money order) shipping included. You can also remove pin 7 from the OBD2 port to keep the dealer from reflashing your ecu (DO NOT CUT THIS WIRE).
Why did Honda not do this to start off with?
There could be several reasons. We suspect the most important reason is emissions. The K20 series engine is LEV ( low emissions vehicle); a standard which is difficult to achieve. The second may be a safety margin Honda has programmed for poor quality / low octane fuels. Another reason may be marketing. Honda may want to introduce a more powerful model at a later time.

thats alot of feedback
but im not too clued up on K20's, so may be worth it, on B series engines i haven't noticed vast improvements

yeah nice car and nice mods you sound a bit like a racer and i guess like me you know the damage your doing to the engine, every time your drive the nuts of it, over the years i have leaned that if i thrash it i seem to forget about the re-sale value, when you come to sell it will the buyer want it with lower vtec and a launch control, although you won't be sleeing it yet just think of the mods your'll want to do as to attract the buyer cus it not a kids car it appeals to all

Davey boy - Yeah K-pro is the way forward. If thats your DC5 then I'm jealous.
GSI Mark - All standard parts have been kept, and I have the factory map that I can upload to the car with laptop, but I have a spare honda ecu anyway. As for wear and tear the engines bullet proof and can safely be pushed more without having to uprate much . The cars just had it's yearly Honda service with no problems so it's well looked after. I also done an advanced driving course so I know how to drive it properly and safely.
Chapcorsa - It's a transformer!! Turns into a robot and everything. Stickers also help people spot me as Black civics with big exhausts are getting rather common in Southend. I like it which is all that matters

Facelift ones look better imo.
Personally think I would have gone for the 182.
