Whats the best airport to go to? is Gatwick the closest?

There seem to be less flights and are more expensive edinburgh to gatwick that to heathrow so how much further is it?

i have looked at maps but i would like to know from people who know the area. I.e if heathrow is closer thats fine but is there direct trains or where do i get the bus etc
