purchased a alpine 12" type r sub, v12 amps, and the necessary bits for the ek9 civic.
my question to you...is in your opinion, would you laugh if you saw my car going down the road going boom boom boom, and associate it with a wee fanny blaring out clubland whatever.
just fancied a bit of bass, but just curious to what you think, does the chavviest come with the shit car and crap music blaring, or just the fact its going boom boom boom past you?
if that makes sense

Wouldnt expect a EK9 full of subs TBH

depends what type of music. if its dy rankin then deffo chav. But good quality bass and vocals are respectable imo

I have a sub in my Corsa, and the volume I have it at means it adds bass inside the car, but you can't hear it outside the car at all.
Compare that to my mates Saxo, and when his is just as quiet you can hear it 30 metres away.
As long as you have it on just to add to the quality of the sound, and not to sound loud, then I wouldn't worry about it, as it is a functional modification.

No, i wouldnt laugh - theres nothing funny about some tit with shit music blaring & bass causing their bumpers to vibrate!
must admit though - i do prefer good quality sounds rather than how loud i can get it.

I have a good quality SQ system in my Gsi - Rainbow components, Genesis and JL Audio amps, 1 x 12" JL sub.
Dont think its chavvy at all as the clarity of the music is awesome, does have a bit of thump if I turn the bass right up but more often than not its set as close to natural sound as possible.

No one will like you any less if you get a sub if thats what you mean. If you want more bass then whats the problem with using one ?
Even if you were a "Chav" I wouldn't mind...

Each to their own but it aint for me! Think it goes against what a Civic Type R is all about (Well in the shape you have anyway!) Id rather have a quality system myself!

A sub does help with the sound system. It provides bass, making any song which has bass sound better. It's like having 6x9s. I have 6x9s in my car and so does alot of people. I don't have them for the sake of it i have them to improve sound quality. It proves the bass that my coxails don't.
If he wants bass to improve his sound system, then whats wrong with that ?

6x9's will not improve sq.
they are poo and should be chucked in the bin.
and s for bass a 10inch crappy mutant sub with a cheap amp in a halfrauds box would provide better bass than a set of shit by 9's.

This is what Im commenting on - not a well balanced system!
To be honest tho, I would rather have a poor system that cant be heard outside the car than a good system that makes me "in my opinion" look like a tw*t.
Like I did say in my original post - each to their own, its just my opinion. Ive always prefered to take stuff out of cars tho than put it in!

Set the system up right and when the windows are closed no-one can really hear it from the outside anyway.
Its only when the windows are opened.
My old system was a 143db system, but when the windows were up, you could hardly hear it. Mind you, when you opened the windows, it wasn't so bad either...
Open the doors at a cruise though, arrrggghhhhh. (oh, and when your sat inside it sucked the air out of your lungs).
All about the setup, so i'd say go for it. I really miss having a bit of good audio

if you are gonna do it, make sure you do it properly and put some decent sound deadening in it, then no one will be able to hear it anyway!

I was just going to post, it all depends on the music and if it's too loud i'll think 'oh no' (not necessarily chav, maybe middle aged gimpy queen fan).
If I saw an ek9 though i'd think oh what a waste, this car should have no stereo

So many people say "6x9's Suck" "Chuck them in the bin". They have the same opinion as you bigrabbelfast. When i upgraded my front door speakers i noticed a difference in sound quality. It was better. I then added a set of 6x9's and yes the sound quality has improved agian. They may not have the sharp sound which component speakers of coxail speakers have, but it's a cheap way to upgrade you sound system though.
Although they are not needed when you have a sub.

^ what i mean, ek9 isnt a car you expect bass from.
i like a nice clear sound.
was just the other day, was walking about, and heard the tinniest crappiest sound system blaring, i cringed as i walked by guy thought he was the dogs too.
i suppose my post was kinda pointless as it will be well balanced and without overpowering bass.
