What do i need to cover before steam cleaning my enginebay??

Airfilter, obviously. Anything else?

in theory yes, but in practice, on a fairly old car, they just aren't. You should be fine aslong as u don't directly blast any connectors.

Under the bonnet?

A lightly damp sponge (so its wet, but not dripping when you pick it up) and wipe. Rinse and do it again. LEather as normal.

And if your sad like me, polish as normal as well

Its how i always clean the engine bay.

As for the engine itself, nothing a good old toothbrush won't sort out, and a bigger brush for the larger areas.

Is that 'Gunk' degreasant(sp) anygood?

Give it a good sponge down like daimo says. T-cut will do wonders on the bonnet latch panel and susp. turrets. back to black etc for the plastics. Then polish and wax any painted areas like u do the rest of the car. Doesn't take that long to acheive something like this-

gunk is good. most degreasers will be , i use a loctite degreaser and its awesome

cover the alternator and battery and spray the whole thing with autoglym machine cleaner, let it soak in for a good half hour then rinse it off with a hosepipe, dont really need a pressure washer mate good cleaner will shift the dirt

For cleaning hoses, I've found good old furniture polish and a rag brings up the hoses spotless as well.

ike marshall says, a few simple products and the engine can come up amazing.. THis one takes a little while though

Oh, and AutoGlym Metal polish for those "rusted" kinda metal areas, and if you have any shiney bits, only use proper chrome polish, as the autoglym stuff is like t-cut and just removes the top layer.

daimo, ive always wanted one of those bailey coolant tanks, but how do u read the level, just peer in through the cap hole with a light?

tbh, im not too keen on my header tank. Its a different material to the rest of the bay and looks a bit out of place (you can really see it in the above pic).

But you need to opent he top and peer in. Theres no sight glass.

Donnas got the best header tank in the world for a corsa, its the nuts. Made by a company called Mirage (done all her chrome parts, washer bottle, caps, header tank, turret covers etc). ITs a D shape. Wasn't cheap, but its much much better IMO.

Also, the bailey one sticks out about 5-10cm from the bulkhead. If i didn't have the strut it would look very strange.
