Okay, my brother has asked me to either make the site myself, or get somebody to create it.
Basically its for the De vere hotel's, and specifically for the golf area, they are expanding their golf range and will be making a shop.
I have done quite a few websites, including shpos etc. The thing is I havnt a clue what the price of it should be if De vere were to get it done by somebody else. I would do it cheap for them and they have agreed that I could do it, but with college work and exams coming up, I doubt I shall be doing it, as they want it up and running by June.
Costs would include:
Hosting
Domain
Designing - Around 20 pages, and 800 products, all "clickable" with a picture and small description of the product.
Labour
Thanks xx

Shops are expensive as nthey are very time consuming. A lot of people opt just to get the bare bones done then add the products them self.

I paid just over £500 for mine. Basically its all templates, then I just add the text and images etc myself. Its not an all singing all dancing website, it doesnt need to be, but its easy for me to maintain and people use it a lot so Im not complaining

Get yourself a hosting package with Dreamhost. About 100quid for 2 years.
Use osCommerce for your shop (free) and find someone who would be able to set it up/design it. I reckon you could get it done for less than that by finding someone with PHP knowledge and the ability to set up a (relatively) simple setup...

£800 with design included, flash as well i think
first 10 products added, you'd have to add the rest or pay more to get them added etc
ecommerce isnt cheap due to the server costs and time spent on them

I can pretty much do all this, its just it takes time, and with exams for college coming up, I don't really want to do it.
I probably will end up doing it though .

I didn't see it was De Vere...when you're working for a massive company, they get charged much more.
If you catch my drift

Also depends whether they just want an online catalogue or an actual shop where you can buy stuff.
If its the latter you need to decide on a payment service provider and think about a system for them to manage the orders.

How many hours is this going to take?
800 is 40 hours.
You going to have this working in one week?

TBH I think it's doable in 40 solid hours.
Possibly not with a fully populated database though.

That including every conversation you have with the client, all testing, and they will want it populating.

A lot comes down to how big your shop is going to be as the bigger the shop the more complex it is to design as you need to code in extra searches / categorisation etc etc.
If its a shop of any size the biggest part of it is populating the database with all the products as this takes a long long time, getting all the pics, descriptions etc for every item, adding them in. If you have a 1000 products you might be suppised how many weeks it will take you to get them up up.
