reason im asking is my sister is buying a car and she has found out she will be away when she has arranged to collect it, can me or my brother sign the logbook on her behalf with her details

You could sign it for her, as long as the new owner is OK with that
Or you buy it with your sisters money & then "sell" it to your sister once the log book comes through

they will if they look at the new owner details before they post it off when the title says miss or mrs.
saying that i have done it a few times, it doesnt really matter to the previous owner as the vehicle has a new owner thats all the dvla needs to know.

Look on your new style driving license, your digital signature is printed on
They have your signature to compare with if they check !
