Depends on how much money you want to spend?

Usual is, full exhaust, de-cat, filter and inlet manifold.

If you can afford it, put the 1.6 16v in. More torque, more bhp from mods etc.

But if you cant afford that, get a inlet manifold, full exhaust, cams, remap etc

I agree with Ste.
I also agree with Monster.
If you do want to tune the 1.4 though, you'll want an inlet, exhaust, exhaust manifold, decat, decent filter (viper or similar) and a remap, and you'll see 115bhp or so...

Get yoursef and Inlet manifold, decat and a exhaust manifold for now

and then when you can get it remapped

I appreciate that not everyone can afford to insure a 1.6

thing is even if you had 1000 bhp you would still get bored and try for more

you just need to cross the line somewhere and be happy with what you have

True. But with a 115bhp 1.4, u'll always be wishing you spent the money on a 1.6. Ask Robin

I fully rebuilt my x14xe, protec 4-1 mainfold, decat, remus racin centre section, filter, had all injectors ultrasonically cleaned. Quick for a 1.4 16V, but im bored of it now, thinkin about buying a c16xe or x16xe.

If you are keeping only for a year then I wouldn't bother doing anything to it.

fit x16xe with inlet/exhaust manifold, cams, remap and exhaust system - should see 130+ bhp

OR fit x16xe and got down throttle body route which can see gains of 160+ with money thrown at it

Free power?

Start stripping that interior and sound proofing panels out. Free power (Power to weight) for nothing

Won't add to your insurance either.

1.4 is a good engine, just always outshadowed by the 1.6. The small amount of torque makes a HUGE difference.
